Methods Of Research
Introduction
In this piece of work i am going to write about the methods of research which are done before making a film. the methods include primary, secondary, qualitative and quantitive. i will be writing what they are and how they can have their advantages and the differences between them.
Primary Research: This would be when the research is done using questionnaires for example when a someone goes out and does the research themselves and they might use focus groups and surveys to do the research and this would be when someone does not use the research done by someone else. This research would also be useful for Media because this would be the information collected yourself and this would mean that you would know that this research is correct because you would have done it yourself the best way you could have.
Advantages of Primary Research: The advantages would be that this research would be reliable to use and this would have your person experience which you can also use in your media and this would mean that the facts you base your media on would be overall more reliable because they would be built on personal experience.
Secondary Research: This would be when the research is done by someone else and the research done by that person would be then sold on to someone who would actually apply that research to the their products or the music video or the documentary they are trying to make and that information would come in handy for that. This would be easier to use in Media because this would then mean you wouldn't have to go out and do the research yourself and this would mean that you would save yourself a lot of time and effort and this would also mean that the information and the research would be done by professionals and this would mean that the research would be reliable because of this. Secondary research would also mean that the research would be done in bulk so it would have more information then primary research done by yourself.
Advantages of Secondary Research: These would be that the secondary research done by someone else would have been done properly and because it would have been done by a professional, this would mean that he would know how to do the research and the Secondary research would have been applied to different aspects of media and this might have proved successful meaning that, this research would have been used by a lot of other people meaning that it might have a high success rate and this would mean that, this information would be better then doing primary research from scratch.Advantages of Secondary Research: These would be that the secondary research done by someone else would have been done properly and because it would have been done by a professional, this would mean that he would know how to do the research and the Secondary research would have been applied to different aspects of media and this might have proved successful meaning that, this research would have been used by a lot of other people meaning that it might have a high success rate and this would mean that, this information would be better then doing primary research from scratch.Advantages of Secondary Research: These would be that the secondary research done by someone else would have been done properly and because it would have been done by a professional, this would mean that he would know how to do the research and the Secondary research would have been applied to different aspects of media and this might have proved successful meaning that, this research would have been used by a lot of other people meaning that it might have a high success rate and this would mean that, this information would be better then doing primary research from scratch.
Qualitative Research: This is when the research is done using facts and has information to back the research by for example; For researching what type of programs people would want to watch on Television. Qualitative research is important for media because it would show all of the facts for the video or media research and these facts would be true because it would have facts to back up that information and this would mean that the information would be real and you would know that information is true because of the facts which back it up.
Advantages of Qualitative research: the advantages of qualitative research would be that the research would have facts which have been proven to work used in that process and the facts would be used by other groups of people who have made films and they would have used and approved those facts and then that would mean that they know that this type of information is used and it works.
Quantitative Research: This would be when the research is done using figures to back that information up for example; 50% of people watch television 4-6 hours a day then this information can be used in the media research and this can also be used to base the music video/ documentary to base it on and this would mean that they would have figures to base the media on because this would then mean for example if your making a television advert which needs to be aired on then based on this information you can air that advert at the times of the day which people actually watch the television.
Advantages for Quantitative research: the advantages of quantitative research is that the research is accurate and the data collected from this type of research is reliable and this type of data can be used to do the research for the 1 minute video. This is done using statistics and figures which show the success or the failure of a film.
RAJAR gives information about the media and they have a lot of information about the media and camera techniques and they have information about the surveys which they have carried out and they upload the information from those surveys on their website for the people to see and this would mean that people who are doing research for media then this would be easier for them to find out and use this information and this would save them from going out there to get the information themselves. They also have key quarter stats which show how many people tune into the radio each week and the amount of media which people use in their daily lives and how it is increasing daily in the UK.
BARB has information on the audiences of media and what age group and the gender of people who listen to music or use media throughout daily and this would show the averages through out the UK. BARB also has a lot of other information which people can go on the website and access and also shows the trends in television where people can see this information and this would help them with their media project and this would mean that all of this information can be accessed on their website. BARB also shows the weekly amount of people who watch the british TV channels.
BBC Media center has a large amount of information about the latest news in the media world, this website also has the latest media trends as well and also shows how the media world is improving daily and this would mean that the people can see all of the latest media trends and news and then they can use that information in their media project and this would then mean that they would not need to go and get that information themselves and they can use that information as secondary research.
Of-com is a website where there is a lot of information about media and has the latest media news so that people can get information from the website and use it in their media projects. Of com also has facts and figures on the latest media news to help the users with their secondary information and this information is fully up to date so that the information which is obtained from this website would be perfectly valid. The layout of the website is really easy to use so that the users can find everything that they need without a problem and this would save them a lot of time and would be very convenient for them.
NRS media helps its users attract new advertisers and this can help its users build new and better media property and they make direct sales to its media users this helps the people use their website easily and the website also has news about the latest media software which is available and helps the people use it and tells the people what they can achieve by using different types of software.

Qualitative Research: This is when the research is done using facts and has information to back the research by for example; For researching what type of shampoo the customers use, how often the people use that shampoo and how they behave to different shampoo's.
Primary Research: This would be when the research is done using questionnaires for example when a someone goes out and does the research themselves and they might use focus groups and surveys to do the research and this would be when someone does not use the research done by someone else.
Quantitative Research: This would be when the research is done using figures to back that information up for example; 60% of the people who tried that shampoo agreed that it made their hair softer and this would make the people know that the shampoo is good and because of the quantitive research used the people would want to go want buy that shampoo.
Secondary Research: This would be when the research is done by someone else and the research done by that person would be then sold on to someone who would actually apply that research to the their products or the music video or the documentary they are trying to make and that information would come in handy for that.
